My new thing

Every couple years you should learn something new.  A few years ago I moved into a business unit at work, so I learned some details about how, and more importantly why, the business folks want things done certain ways.  Now that time has come again, and I think I have an opportunity to move into a new group that is just starting up to support mobile development.  Right now there is an IPhone app, but they are expanding to Android as well.  That is the new technology I am looking at, but I also am looking at moving up.  To make a better impression when I go in I have been finishing up an app I started a while ago.  One thing that was missing from the basic Android phone/map app was the ability to mark a place so you could find it again.  You go to the big game and park the car. Before you leave, start up the app, let it get a location fix, and then save that spot.  After the game when you start wandering around, pull out the trusty Droid and fire up the GPS.  It will show where you are now and where your car is.  Walk around until those two points come together.

The next thing I want to add is a range and direction interface.  Think original Star Trek, Spock waves a tri-corder back and forth and then tells Kirk, "200m in this direction".  Add a couple good sound effects and it will be a good version 2
